As with all treatments I have to confirm your suitability with a questionnaire and a patch test.
It is imperative you keep out of the sun after laser/IPL treatments for at least 2 weeks, and keep covered and wear SPF 30+ on treated areas if you do have to go out in the sun.
This procedure of rejuvenating aged skin is also referred to as photo-rejuvenation and requires a series of IPL treatments.
IPL may also be helpful for mild to moderate acne and stretch marks.
IPL systems work on the same principles as lasers in that light energy is absorbed into particular target cells with colour in the skin. The light energy is then converted to heat which causes minor damage to the specific target area, the body’s natural healing process takes over and removes and repairs the damaged areas. IPL systems differ to lasers in that they deliver multiple wavelengths (or colours of the spectrum).
IPL targets the lower layers of skin without affecting the top layers of skin. The results are not as dramatic as other laser techniques which vaporise the skin and provide a much faster set of results. The advantage of IPL therapy is its minimal downtime and much lower cost per treatment. You can usually go about your life as normal right after the treatment, although there will be some changes to the pigments in your skin which will subside after 1 to 2 weeks on average.
A course of treatments is required for lasting results, with a top up every year.
IPL Therapy rejuvenates, revitalises and tightens the skin and can target many skin complaints including:
Vascular lesions including spider veins, port wine stains, broken facial veins, rosy cheeks, rosacea and red thread veins of the legs,
Pigmented lesions including age spots, freckles, flat pigmented birthmarks and other skin discolouration problems such as melasma/chloasma and erythromelanosis of the neck (poikiloderma of Civatte),
Facial lines and wrinkles.
Paradigm Shifting Acne Treatment
The embrassing feeling of looking in the mirror and seeing Acne will be familiar to most of us. In fact, 80%+ of teenagers suffer from Acne.
Hormonal acne is usually known simply as acne. The rise in androgen levels, especially during puberty, can trigger a process of higher sebum production, changes in skin cell activity, inflammation, and colonization of the hair follicles by a bacteria known as Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes).
IPL Acne treatment uses a complex device to deliver a wide range of visible light to the sebacious glands harbouring P. Acnes. A combination of thermal and bactericidal properties of the light eliminate the bacteria and allow your skin to settle back to normal, over the period of the course.
This is a quick treatment with no downtime and is considered medically to be a viable and positive alternative to oral antibiotics.
This treatment is suitable for pubescent teenagers to adults. If you would like to know more, or if you would like to book a consultation, please do get in touch.
